look at the Flathead tribe and examine the expedition's interactions
with these people who played a pivotal role in the Corps' successful
completion of the journey - both on the outbound and homeward
bound legs of the voyage. Here the members of the expedition were
tested mightily during the navigation of Lost Trail Pass. We'll
look at their transition from a meat-based diet to one of salmon
and camas root and the resulting debilitating sickness among the
members of the party at Weippe Prairie. We'll address the making
of canoes for the party's return to river travel on the outbound
journey and its agonizing wait for snowmelt on the return trip.
